Paris with Kids: Planning a First Visit with Room to Wander

Shape a Paris family break around a few favorites, neighborhood time and manageable journeys between your main stops.

Paris and the Eiffel Tower

A first Paris trip can feel like a long list of places you are supposed to see. For a family, a gentler plan often works better: one memorable outing, something delicious and enough time to notice the city between the famous stops.

Choose a small shared wish list

Invite everyone to choose one thing they would love to do. Combine those ideas into a manageable list rather than booking a major attraction for every morning and afternoon. Paris je t’aime, the city’s official tourism office, has a family outings guide to help you explore possibilities. Treat it as inspiration, then verify details directly with each attraction.

Group the day by neighborhood

Put your chosen stops on a map and look at the journeys between them. Try to keep lunch and an easy break near your main visit. Crossing the city several times adds walking, transfers and waiting that may not be obvious in a list of attractions.

Book the experiences that matter most

Check reservation requirements, entry times, child ticket categories and cancellation terms on official websites. Save confirmations somewhere easy to access. Leave a buffer before a timed entry so that a late breakfast or slow journey does not set the tone for the day.

Make room for ordinary moments

Leave time for a playground, a bakery stop or a short wander at your children’s pace. These small pauses give the trip texture and let everyone recover between busier visits. Keep an indoor alternative in mind, but avoid reserving a second full itinerary just in case it rains.

Choose accommodation for the daily routine

Check room occupancy, beds, lifts, nearby food and transport access. If you are bringing a stroller, review the actual routes you expect to use. A comfortable base is the place that makes mornings and evenings easier for your family. Tell Carolyn about your Paris wish list to begin shaping a trip that leaves room to enjoy it.
